Gettysburg Battle Witness Tree Falls

A honey locust tree that witnessed Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, thousands of lives killed in battle, and shaded wounded soldiers, was split during a storm yesterday.

You can see from the photograph, the tree on Cemetery Hill had two codominant trunks which would have inclusions that probably weakened the tree. Since 70% to 80% has been damaged, it is not known if the tree will survive or not.

Thanks for posting this! I've been following this news story closely. Let's hope the tree survives!

Love the picture by Alison Mosier-Mills! It's really high quality and shows the tree from a cool angle. Does anyone know if Alison has a photo website?

Thanks,
Hannah
